Siemens Healthineers is expanding its photon-counting CT business in China with the NAEOTOM Alpha.Pro, which received NMPA approval in June 2026. The system is also the company's first domestically produced dual-source photon-counting CT in China, with production based at its Shanghai facility.
Photon-counting CT gains ground in China
The approval follows the commercial adoption of the NAEOTOM Alpha platform in China.
Industry procurement tallies show the NAEOTOM Alpha platform won close to 20 tenders in China in 2025 (about 9 by mid-June). Cumulative NAEOTOM Alpha installations in China reached roughly 34 units by mid-2026 — almost all the imported model, with the domestically produced Alpha.Pro approved in June 2026 and only beginning to ship.
The figures indicate that photon-counting CT is moving from early adoption toward a broader high-end medical imaging market.
Local production of Alpha.Pro
The Alpha.Pro continues Siemens' development of photon-counting CT in China, with local teams covering product development, registration, manufacturing and service.
The system is designed for applications including cardiovascular, pulmonary and oncology imaging, with multi-energy and material-analysis capabilities.
High-end CT and power protection
The growth of high-end CT equipment brings attention to the electrical infrastructure supporting these systems.
Voltage fluctuations, short interruptions and other power-quality problems can affect CT operation. For hospitals installing advanced CT systems, an online UPS can provide continuous power through double conversion while helping protect the scanner from utility-side disturbances.
For projects requiring electrical isolation or voltage conversion, a low-frequency online UPS with an isolation transformer can be considered.
