MHI and Ingeteam Partnership Puts AI Data Center Power Quality in Focus

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Ingeteam announced a partnership on October 15 to distribute, integrate and jointly develop energy infrastructure solutions for U.S. data centers. According to MHI's announcement, the companies plan to combine expertise in power systems, conversion, controls, cooling and energy management.

The announcement reflects a challenge facing AI data centers: securing enough electricity is only one part of the power plan. Computing loads can change rapidly, while voltage imbalance and harmonic distortion can complicate the operation of electrical equipment. Facility designers must consider how the grid connection, onsite generation, distribution system and protected loads behave together.

The agreement is a memorandum of understanding. MHI and Ingeteam have described areas for collaboration, but have not announced a completed customer installation under this partnership.

Where Does the UPS Fit?

A UPS protects selected loads when incoming power is disturbed or interrupted. Its place in a data center design depends on the facility's voltage, load profile, redundancy requirements and backup-power strategy. The UPS also has to operate correctly with upstream equipment, including generators, switchgear and other power-conversion systems.

For an AC-based installation, a modular data center UPS cabinet is one product category buyers can evaluate. Capacity should be checked in both kVA and kW, alongside redundancy, battery runtime, monitoring and maintenance requirements. The linked BLAZING POWER cabinet is a separate product; it is not part of the MHI–Ingeteam partnership.

For industrial and data center projects alike, power-quality planning should begin with measured or specified load characteristics. Engineers can then confirm the UPS input and output requirements, expected disturbances, battery support time and generator operating conditions before selecting equipment. This system-level approach helps ensure that individual components work together when the facility needs them most.
