Envision said on November 2, 2026, that an integrated 800 VDC power system is operating at its Galaxy AI data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, China.

The company reports that the system supplies live computing workloads using solid-state transformers (SSTs), battery storage and DC power conversion equipment. Envision describes this as a commercial deployment rather than a laboratory demonstration. Its operational claims have not been independently verified by this publication.

How the 800V DC data center power architecture works

According to Envision, the system converts 10 kV medium-voltage AC directly to an 800 VDC distribution bus. Its Dubhe Controller coordinates the SST and battery system to respond to changing computing loads.

Envision describes second-scale power support, minute-scale backup and millisecond-level coordination. The announcement does not provide independently verified end-to-end efficiency figures, measured battery autonomy under specified loads or detailed protection settings.

Implications for AI data center power distribution

The deployment illustrates how battery storage and DC distribution can be integrated closer to computing equipment.

However, an 800 VDC architecture does not automatically replace every function of a conventional online UPS. Fault isolation, maintenance bypass, battery autonomy and equipment compatibility still require evaluation.

Envision says its Galaxy campus has a planned capacity of 3 GW. That figure describes the intended campus scale, not the installed capacity of this power system.

For electrical contractors, published operating data and protection specifications would provide a stronger basis for evaluating similar designs.
