Project Background

In May 2026, BLAZING POWER supplied a 60 kVA low-frequency online UPS and 32 × 12 V 100 Ah BLAZING POWER batteries for a hospital CT scanner project in Mexico. The equipment was installed on-site by the customer's engineering team in June 2026, with remote technical support from BLAZING POWER.

CT scanners require careful coordination between their specified electrical demand and the upstream power supply. In addition to continuous power, the UPS selection must account for short-duration power requirements during scanning, electrical compatibility and battery backup needs. The system installed for this project uses a transformer-based UPS with a separate 384 VDC battery bank.

UPS and Battery System Configuration

The UPS is rated at 60 kVA with an output power factor of 0.8, equivalent to a maximum rated active output of 48 kW. Its three-phase 380 V input and three-phase 380 V output match the specified project configuration. A built-in output isolation transformer forms part of the supplied UPS design.

The battery bank comprises 32 BLAZING POWER 12 V 100 Ah lead-acid batteries connected in series, providing a nominal voltage of 384 VDC. The nameplate energy of this battery string is 38.4 kWh; available backup energy and runtime depend on the CT load, battery discharge characteristics and UPS operating conditions. The supplied configuration is specific to this installation, not a universal sizing rule for CT scanners.

Why a Low-Frequency UPS?

A transformer-based low-frequency UPS was selected for this hospital installation. The integrated output isolation transformer is one part of the site's power protection arrangement, while online conversion provides regulated AC output and battery-backed operation during mains interruptions.

For any CT scanner, the selection must still be checked against the manufacturer's specified continuous and peak loads, input requirements and the UPS's verified overload characteristics. For related products, see the BLAZING POWER low-frequency UPS range.

On-Site Installation: From Battery Cabinet to Completed System

Project Delivery and Technical Coordination

Item Confirmed project scope
UPS supply BLAZING POWER 60 kVA low-frequency online UPS with built-in output isolation transformer
Battery supply 32 BLAZING POWER 12 V 100 Ah lead-acid batteries
Customer site work On-site installation of the UPS and battery arrangement
Support Remote technical coordination with the customer's engineering team

Final commissioning and acceptance are subject to the customer’s site electrical and medical equipment procedures. Battery runtime should be verified against the actual CT load and battery conditions.

Lessons for Similar Hospital CT Projects

  • Start with the CT electrical specification: confirm continuous and short-duration power requirements before selecting UPS capacity.
  • Check electrical compatibility: verify three-phase voltage, protective devices, neutral and grounding requirements at the installation site.
  • Calculate backup time from the load: battery nameplate energy alone does not determine usable runtime.
  • Coordinate responsibilities: establish the boundaries between supply, on-site electrical work, remote support and final CT acceptance.
