Hitachi Energy Plans R$385 Million Transformer-Component Expansion in Brazil

November 2, 2026 | Industry News

Hitachi Energy announced on October 22, 2026, that it will invest R$385 million (approximately US$77 million) to expand transformer-component manufacturing in Brazil. The investment includes a new facility for high-voltage bushings and tap changers alongside its power-transformer complex under construction in Pindamonhangaba, São Paulo, and expanded insulation-material production in Guarulhos.

What the new capacity will produce

The company expects the investment to create more than 120 direct jobs and bring its cumulative investment in Brazil above US$350 million.

The new facility will add capacity for oil-impregnated paper (OIP) bushings and expand production of resin-impregnated paper (RIP) and paperless bushings.

Hitachi Energy expects greater local production to reduce dependence on imported components and improve supply-chain resilience. Its announcement does not specify a commissioning date or annual output.

Why this matters to transformer and UPS projects

Bushings provide insulated electrical connections through transformer enclosures, while tap changers adjust winding connections to regulate transformer voltage. These are components for high-voltage power transformers, not standalone voltage stabilizers or low-voltage isolation transformers.

For EPC contractors, component availability can affect delivery schedules for upstream grid equipment serving factories and data centres.

For UPS projects, the practical link is schedule risk involving upstream transformers and switchgear, not a change in UPS specifications.

The announcement concerns planned manufacturing capacity. It does not establish that the new factory is operating or that any UPS equipment has been ordered.
